Second-day hair is where mine starts acting like it has no interest in helping me. The ends still look good, and sometimes even better than they did on day one. But the roots go flat in the most annoying way. The crown starts to stick to my scalp, the front pieces lose their shape and all of a sudden, the whole thing looks tired, even though the rest of my hair is fine.

I got tired of pretending that a middle part and dry shampoo were enough, so I started using volumizing products. Some of these really helped me. Some added more texture than height. Some worked best on wet hair, and some saved me when my roots had already collapsed by noon. These are the ones I actually tested and what they looked like on my hair.

I found that this one worked best when I used it on wet roots before blow-drying. I mostly sprayed it around the front and crown, then I used a round brush to dry my hair by lifting it up. It didn't make my roots look big, but it did give them a soft bounce that looked fresh and clean.

What I liked best was that it didn't leave that sticky feeling that some root sprays do. I could still feel my hair. The volume looked smooth, not stiff. It got a little softer by late afternoon, but it didn't go all the way back down.

I liked this one most on dry hair when I needed a quick rescue. I would lift parts of the crown, spray underneath, and then shake everything out with my fingers. It gave almost instant height and made my roots look less limp within seconds.

It also made the top of my hair look less separated, which I liked. The hold is definitely there, though. It started to feel a little dry if I sprayed too close or used too much. But it made a big difference when I got the right amount.

This one made the biggest difference at the roots of all the things I tried. I tapped a little directly into my dry roots and rubbed it in with my fingers. My hair pretty much lifted itself.

The crown looks fuller so quickly because it adds grip right away. It's great for hair that goes flat an hour after you style it. The bad part is clear, though. If you use too much, it can start to feel a bit rough in the hair. I had to be careful not to get too excited about it.

This one gave me that fuller-at-the-root look without making my hair feel crunchy. I used a small amount on damp roots and worked it through before drying. Once everything was done, my crown looked lifted and my hair had more shape overall.

What I noticed with this one is that it held up better than some lighter sprays. My roots still looked decent later in the day. It didn’t turn my hair stiff, but I definitely wouldn’t overapply. A little went far enough.

This is more of a dry-hair product for me. I used it when my hair already looked flat and needed help fast. I sprayed it underneath sections, especially around the crown, and then fluffed it up with my hands.

It made my hair look fuller right away, but it also gave that airy, slightly undone texture. So it wasn’t just lift, it was lift with some shape. I liked that on casual days. The only thing is it can get a little dry if I keep layering it throughout the day.

This one reminded me why root powders are still hard to beat when you want visible lift. I used it on dry roots and worked it in gently with my fingers. Right away, the crown looked higher and less stuck down.

It also helped add a bit of texture, so my roots didn’t just rise and then flop again. I liked that it didn’t feel sticky. But it does need a light hand. Too much and it can start feeling overly powdery, especially near the front hairline.

I put this style-prep on my damp hair before blow-drying, mostly at the roots, and it worked more like a base product than a dramatic root lifter.

After styling, my hair looked fuller, especially near the crown. It also gave my blowout that clean, airy look that makes it look like it has more structure. It didn't do all the work for me, but it made every other volumizing product I used after it work better.

This one was easy, but in a good way. I sprayed it on my damp roots before blow-drying, and I got a nice lift at the top of my hair without any strange residue.

I could see the lift, especially around the part and crown, but my hair still moved naturally. It didn't get too sticky or too much. I would say this is an easy choice for every day. It's not the strongest one here, but it did help my roots look less tired, which was the whole point.

This one is definitely bigger. I used it on dry hair and sprayed it under the lifted parts at the top. It gave me that fluffy, fuller crown right away, like my hair had been teased a little, but it wasn't really teased.

If you want your roots to look a lot better, not just a little better, this is a good product. It also added some texture, which helped the volume last longer. The only downside about the R+Co was that it started to feel a bit dry when I used too much. Use it sparingly and only where you need to.

Final Thoughts

This isn't a miracle fix because my roots still go flat sometimes. But these did help, especially when the top of my hair starts to look tired. Some gave a soft lift every day, others added volume quickly, and a few worked better as touch-ups.
